World Book Day 2017

Stepping inside the College on World Book Day was like being transported to a film set or the pages of all your favourite books. Stalking the corridors were Harry Potter, Fantastic Mr Fox, Mary Poppins, Just William, Sherlock, Dr. Watson, Where’s Wally, to name just a few. What’s more, Dracula had seized control! There were many very creative homemade costumes, all of which deserved a prize. However, the overall winners were: First Prize - Lily Green as the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland; Second Prize - Abi Brayford as the Demon Dentist by David Walliams and Third Prize - Lily Clarke as Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmations by Dodie Smith. £337.20 was raised by this activity for the Harry Johnson Trust, which supports local children receiving treatment for cancer.
The Inter-House Bumper Book Quiz gave students the chance to revisit some of the most popular books for young readers and proved to be a lot of fun. Sydney was the clear winner with 40 points; Joint Second were Webb and Darwin with 31 points and Third was Clive with 26 points. The Cakes and Books Sale at lunchtime was well-supported and raised £124 for Book International and the College Library. We are grateful to everyone who dressed up, baked delicious cakes, donated or bought books, took part in the quiz, helped out with the sale or generally supported the events by participating and helping to make the day so enjoyable.
